Gmail is refusing to authenticate for a few days if you have a 'weak' password. So you can log in online - no problems, however, iphone email app shows incorrect username and password.
Few of my friends have started calling me saying can't receive gmail. So checked username/password, Authentication, deleted and rebuild (would not pass verification on rebuild), re-enabled POP settings.....
what stroked me as odd is the fact they both had simple (basically a 8&9 letter word) password. Household users here with multiple iphones and touches and no one is complaining... Well, as a last measure, I went into their gmail account settings and added a two digit number after their original password (it cleared 'weak') and applied. Went back to both iphones and changed there - BINGO, email problem solved!.
