Gmail not synching between mac and iPhone

So I have my gmail email account set up on both my mac mail application and my iPhone, and they're both set up as IMAP, however they're still not synching with one another. When I read/delete an email on one device it still shows as unread on the other. WHat am I doing wrong?
 
It's Mail on the Mac that's lagging. Several threads in the iPhone section regarding this. You aren't doing anything wrong.

I switched to Postbox for my email for this reason.
