Gmail problem... trying to help a Doc

I'm trying to help my doctor set up his GMAIL on his new 3GS. He puts in his info and it says use SSL. He hits yes and then it says there is something wrong with the imap check your settings. I then tried on my phone with my wifes gmail and got the same respnce.

any help out there for a Dr.

Make sure the gmail account is set up for imap or pop mail in the account

Yep check imap settings on the gmail website in settings

Make sure his username in password are set in the outgoing mail settings as well. I think I've seen that error before and that was the only problem. I'm sure you could get that same error for different reasons though so you never know.

Be sure to start the set-up by tapping other... instead of GMAIL.
