Hi, I remember there were threads about how hotmail was going to release some kind of thing where they support push on iphone mail app now? Just wondering is that true now and does it work? Do I put my hotmail on "microsoft exchange" or "others"?

Also, I was wondering is gmail on the iphone stock mail app push or does it have some problems? Reliable?
To get it to push... do I put it under "gmail" or microsoft exchange" ?

Thanks for the help.

answer for hotmail an gmail questions is both can go under exchange option

gmail:

email: - self explanitory
Domain: leave blank
Username: self explanitory
password: self explanitory

give a diescption hit next when server appears put m.google.com and then next again an chose the next options as you wish.

hotmail:

email: - self explanitory
Domain: leave blank
Username: full hotmail emaill address
password: self explanitory

give a diescption hit next when server appears put m.hotmail.com and then next again an chose the next options as you wish.

hope this helps

thanks guys.

Just wondering how come you have to use "exchange" instead of the "gmail" section on iphone mail app? Isn't that kinda weird?

Thanks!

*When viewing the email... will it open up safari.. or will the emails be pushed into the "iphone maill app" ?

Exchange is the only way to get Gmail and Hotmail to PUSH the emails to your phone.
If you set it up via the options listed then it will only set it up as an IMAP connection so you will have to Fetch to get the e-mails.

So set it up as an Exchange and it works fine.

Remember your Username is your full e-mail address: yourname@gmail.com yourname@hotmail.com

When you set up your e-mails using the above instructions they will arrive in the iPhone Mail app.

my only question is if you have an @hotmail.co.uk email address do you still put m.hotmail.com or do you put m.hotmail.co.uk?

It's still m.hotmail.com

That goes for any other address that uses Windows Live Hotmail (live.com, live.co.uk etc.).

Some organisations like Universities are now using Hotmail for their email facilities. Those accounts can also use Exchange and the server is still the same (m.hotmail.com)

So most important... i have to put a description... and put "m.gmail.com"?

If i dont put the m.gmail.com, it won't push correctly, correct?

Thanks again!

You can make the description absolutely anything you want. As long as the server and credentials are correct it should work.

If you don't add a description, it will show up as "Exchange" in your mail app.

You may know this already, but in case someone doesn't; keep in mind that setting up your hotmail through Exchange does more than just push the mail to your phone. If you delete an e-mail in your phone, it's deleted online too. It keeps your in-boxes sync'd.
