I did a search on this and it seems that no one had any real answers.

This is my first iPhone coming over from BB so forgive the newbness...

I set up my gmail account by selecting "Gmail" in the iPhone mail setup, selected push...it's not pushing. It only checks for mail if I open the app.

Is this still a problem for everyone?

Should I not be using the Gmail setup that comes with the phone?

Thanks in advance!

Other than push not working (which I realize will be a software fix, if it even requires a fix) this phone is AMAZING. Makes my old BB look like a cheap toy. Mail looks brilliant and so far *fingers crossed* I'm not having any of the issues: yellow, reception, proximity detector...etc :apple:

AFAIK, the standard Gmail setup does not support Push because it is IMAP. If you want Push, set it up as an Exchange Account. The settings are in GMail, under Settings.

Do not use gmail on the
Choices. Since the i4 supports multiple exchange you can use both your work email and gmail.

And for gmail push here is what you can do.

Set it up as exchange. Then on server type m.google.com

You should have now a push gmail account.

I did this and it keeps asking for an exchange password... Why?

I tried the gmail push yesterday, following the instruction from google. But I found it is quite unreliable. I tried sending 5-6 test emails from another gmail account, the nofitication came very late or never show up.

I find gmail exchange hit or miss, some days its rock solid and others ill get emails 2 or 3 hours later, or not at all until i check it on a pc. Ill deal with 15 minute fetch intervals for now
