Gmail + Safari memory leak?

I have been a recent migrant to Mac (and hence Safari)...

The two gmail tabs on my Safari - they start at about 300 MB and over a day or two creep to a insane 2 GB per tab...

Is this a known issue?

Any chance it may be related to the ad blocker I have on the Safari?

I have the 16GB MBP, but due to this, the men used quickly reaches about 13GB...
