It used to be in Settings -> Mail, that you could enter the password for an account. But now a Gmail account in iOS has removed that option.

I've got emails stuck in my outbox, quite confusing
 
Just noticed this as well. There is a spot for a password if you go to Account > SMTP > Gmail SMTP. It's grayed out in my settings so I couldn't change it even if I wanted to. What are you using for a Gmail password setting? I'm using 2 step.

Unfortunately it looks like deleting and readding is the only option....but it should be easier than that.
 
Strange, I used the app switcher to kill Settings and Mail, and then when I went back in to Mail and it decided to allow sending again.

So, I didn't input my password at any point. I'm no wiser now :-/
