Hi All,
I am trying to resolve an issue which I've tried almost every angle and now I'm stumped. This is happening on another gmail address let's say it's london123@gmail.com for arguments purposes and on a different computer.
Firstly specs:
- Mac Book Air mid-2011 model
- Most updated version of Mac OS Yosemite
- Tried both the most updated version of Chrome and Safari browsers
- Google 2 Factor authentication and https:// is being used at all times.
Issues experienced:
1) Evidence of malware on Mac Book Air with "pwned" folders found
2) Spam being sent from london123@gmail.com to many contacts
3) Cannot reset passwords on other websites linked to gmail eg: www.hm.com
Issue 1:
- Tried to delete cookes, etc - but in the end, wanted to make completely sure the malware is flushed from the system, I did a FULL re-install of Yosemite. Definitely deleted the malware
Issue 2:
- As little as 3 hours ago, spam was being sent from the london123@gmail.com account. I looked on the forums and took steps to secure the account. I can log into the account no problem - I have changed the password as well as added 2-factor Google Authenticator. FYI Google Authenticator was enabled months ago, so I don't understand how spam is being sent from the account still. I have just turned off POP3 and IMAP in the settings so I *think* that will resolve it.
Issue 3:
- I would like to change the passwords on all of the websites I use. An example is www.hm.com (clothing retailer). I don't know the password for H&M so what I did was "forget password". H&M then asked for my email, which I put london123@gmail.com. I get an email sent to london123@gmail.com with the H&M password reset link. I click the link and it goes to the H&M website and presents me to reset the password. I reset the password then try logging in again and it does not work! (even though I did put the new password in correctly)
- I have tried on Chrome and Safari and I have also tried on Mac OS and on iOS on an iPhone 6. The SAME behaviour happens. Which leads me to believe the gmail has been hacked so bad that the reset links are being captured somewhere?? I am looking at the URLs and the URLs seem to be legit, they're not malware URLs/sites.
The problem seems to be this london123@gmail.com email address. I created a separate email, let's say for arguments purposes it's paris123@gmail.com - if I send the H&M link to paris123@gmail.com, the link WORKS.
Does anyone have any suggestions? I would prefer not having to change my gmail email address.
