Gmail stopped working

Hi all,
I have gmail set within the Apple mail app on my old Macbook pro 2010 running High Sierra.
It has suddenly stopped sending any email composed and to be sent through my gmail account.
I have deleted and reinstalled my account in the mail app. No difference.
Gmail works fine through a browser (Google Chrome).
Anyone had this issue and got a solution.
Would be much appreciated.

Late to the party - did you sort this out?
I've run into this using Outlook for Mac 2011 on an old iMac (mom's) - account otherwise works fine.

Also ran into it on my wife's iPhone; she can send from computer, just not iphone.
