I have Gmail & MobileMe configured to sync contacts on my iPhone (there are reasons why I have both).
The iPhone seems to be handling most contacts properly, so that when I go to my "All Contacts" section, I see a unified single contact that combines the information from both Gmail & MobileMe (which is identical in most cases) and within each unified contact card I see a section at the bottom with two "linked contacts", one for Gmail and the other for MobileMe. Great - this is exactly how I would expect for this to work.
HOWEVER -- and this is the part that gets me - any contact whose first OR last name begins with the letter "D" gets triplicated:
1. Gmail contact
2. MobileMe contact
3. An "empty" contact with just the individual's name and Company/Position
Weird. It's as if the iPhone doesn't do the whole "linking" process properly.
I've checked both Gmail and Mobile and these contacts aren't duplicated in either address book.
I've also removed both accounts from my phone (along with all the contact/calendar/etc information) and re-configured and re-synced them, with the same behavior occurring each time: all contacts sync and unify/link perfectly, except for those whose first or last name begins with "D". WTF!!??
What gives???
EDIT: Ok, I lied: looks like duplicates were created within MobileMe. But again, it's only those contacts whose first or last name begins with "D". Although, I'm not sure if these duplicates were created after the syncing/resyncing.... I guess there's only one way to find out....
