I use a PowerBook G4 (specs below), and I am having issues with retreiving my GMail in Apple Mail. I configured my GMail in Apple Mail using the directions provided by Google. My specific configuration in Apple Mail is below...
__________________________________________
Account Type: POP
Email Address: br---.f-----@gmail.com

Incoming Mail Server: pop.gmail.com
Username: br---.f-----@gmail.com
Password: *******

Outgoing Mail Server: smtp.gmail.com
Server port: 587
Authentication: password
Username: br---.f-----@gmail.com
Password: *******

"Advanced" Tab
Port: 995
"Use SSL" = checked
Authentication: password
___________________________________________

When I try to "Get Mail" I receive the following error message for the GMail Mailbox:
"Connection Failed: The mail server denied access to the user specified in Mail preferences because of a serious system error. Please double-check the settings for account "GMail", and if necessary contact your service provider to resolve this problem.

The server error encountered was: Your account is not enabled for POP access. Please visit your Gmail settings page and enable your account for POP access."

Please help!

Brian

... what swindmill said.

Go into you GMail account using <browser of choice>, click 'Settings' in the upper right, then 'Forwarding and Pop'. Enable POP access.

Your Mail access should work after that.
