Gmail will not come into Mail

I am dealing with a client who we have using google apps to handle their email. Problem is whenever they go out of the US the gmail will not come into Mac Mail.

If he goes to the gmail page he is fine, it just doesn't work in Mac Mail. It seems like some sort of proxy issue or is it just a random freak thing?

He must have something configured incorrectly, or the country he is traveling in blocks the servers.

A friend of mine called me a little while ago and told me his AOL mail wasn't showing up in mail, but it would show up in web mail. I told him to right click on his AOL account in the left side of the inbox and check and see if it says "take aol account online" His was set for "Off line". He made the change and it worked. Hope this helps. 
