Since both Signal and Telegram are hopelessly broken, I looked for some alternative, which would not be restricted to jabber, and this Gnome client for Matrix protocol looks promising. On iOS there is Element messenger for the same.

With quite some work on fixing dependencies (which were broken not just for powerpc, but for macOS in general), I got it launching now.

I am not yet sure how to set it up, and the first attempt to add Matrix account ran into an error. However that may not be related to ppc or macOS, since it was also reported on Linux. So hopefully it is a matter of correct set-up.

Anyone interested to cooperate on this? I think that my patches are generally sane, but it will be helpful to have a second opinion. Also, if anyone already uses Matrix, maybe you could explain how to get this going?

P. S. Building this will require a lot. I am pretty sure that Tiger is a no-go; on 10.6 ppc you could just install my binaries, but on Leopard everything will need to be built from source.

I'm not familiar with matrix. Does it only let you chat with other people using matrix?

I would be interested in using my computer to send/receive "text" with people on pocket computers. Is this possible? I think at one point ichat could do this. I suppose this has been locked down for normal use, except for people sending spam...

Otherwise, irc has *always* worked for me.
