i read on slashdot that it appears that the ever-so-powerful sql based filesystem that ms is promising to its users in the upcoming longhorn release (now scheduled for 2009 i believe) will be available much sooner to linux/bsd users. the storage project aims to provide a sophisticated sql-based alternative to conventional filesystems, including a natural language interface. hopefully apple (and that guy who designed BFS who is working for them) can whip up something like this, or better. if not, i'm sure that we'll be able to reap the benefits as well, due to the extensibility of this system.
apple should also work on getting content indexing (a wonderful and often overlooked feature) to work dynamically so that you don't have to spend an hour doing it manually. this alone would make great strides in improving human interaction.
