Are you a brand new customer? Previous/upgrading customer? I don't know about previous customer, but if your a new, haven't you just created an account when you did the DF? I know for me, as a new customer, they gave me a phone number and a loaner phone until my iPhone arrives. So if I were to cancel that, then go to another store and buy it there, I'm no longer a 'new' customer. Right???

No... upgrading, current gen1 Iphone customer. I didnt do anything to my account @ the DF, just placed an order. My account still shows iphone1 on it, along with being "upgrade eligible" still.

YES you can purchase from Apple store and cancel the DF. Here's a snipit from my AT&T email:

AT&T Shipment Confirmation said:
You will be notified via email when it arrives. You will then have seven (7) days to pick up your order or it will be canceled.

So even if your DF order comes in and you didn't pick it up after 7 days it would be canceled.
