That's funny, but now that I hear it, doesn't really surprise me.

I'm not really sure I understand this whole UMPC concept. It's not a Pocket PC or a laptop. To me it just seems to take the worst of each. Not as capable as a laptop: no keyboard. Not as portable as a Pocket PC. What exactly are you supposed to use this for? What niche is it trying to fill? Seems to me, unless I can actually put it in my pocket (ie. don't have to carry a bag) then I might as well cary a fully-capable, lightweight notebook.

It's basically a solution in search of a problem, and the problem now (at least for the marketers) is how to separate your money from your wallet before you catch on to the fact that you really don't need it in the first place.

Maybe it's an oversized Palm, or maybe it's a crippled laptop, or, as the author of the article above politely surmises, maybe it's just "too revolutionary." lol

The current UMPCs are marketed as something that will run tons of things (games, presentation, word, ect.) Basically, anything short of Photoshop. Hence the "Go anywhere. Do Anything" idea.
To me, i think that might be the wrong angle. Apple needs to do to the UMPC what iPod did to mobile audio. Make it do a few things VERY well. Make it a kick butt mobile web browser (include Wi-FI and EV-DO). Make it great for mobile video/audio (think oversized iPod video meets portable DVD player). Make it great for taking notes in class and creating/running presentation. THink along those lines. DON"T try to make it do everything, make it do a few things well. How much should this cost? Well, with a processor designed to maximize video, and built in Wi-Fi/EV-DO, I think it could be about $500-$600.

Great idea

I think that little contraption is a great idea. We need a more mobile cheap digital tablet computer. That touch-typeing interface is genious. Now... if it was only made by Apple, it may be interesting... Samsung? lol they can't even make a decent mp3 player...:p
