So I got my 2014 MacBook Pro 15" base model 2 years ago when it was due to be replaced by the 2015 model. Therefor they wanted to get rid of their stock of 2014 models and I got mine new and discounted from $2750 to about $2000 (yes, they really are that expensive in Sweden).
Now I sat down and saw that I can acuire a 2017 touch bar 13" model for $1900 instead of the original price of $2500.

I think I can get my current MacBook Pro sold for around $1800 which means that I lose $100 in going from a 3 year old machine to the latest one with touch bar. Would you guys do it? I use the HDMI port a lot, but could obviously just get a dongle for that. USB and SD card slot are very rarely used anymore for me. They have very equal geekbench scores (considering mine is an i7 Quad core and the 2017 13" has an i5 dual)..

If you can do it I guess why not? The touch bar is ok and Touch ID is nice. I wouldn't factor it into your decision though.

The 2014 15" is faster in sustained multi-threaded performance. But if that doesn't matter much for you, the dual-core Kaby Lake is a very capable CPU.

Damn it! I was just about to order it. I figured why not, as it could be an investment to sell it on with an unbroken packaging. It seems though that the automatic price adjustment hadn't updated on the site that I found the computer on and that it had gone back to its original price on the website that offered the discounted product... Oh well, my 2014 works like a champ for at least two more years.
