Ok so I have about 60GB or Go Pro files on my hard drive. Let me say now - I have very little clue about video editing, and no clue what the proper workflow is for Go Pro data. But, my problem right now is I want to reduce the amount of space these files are taking up.

What is the best way to process these files to make em smaller but still possible to editing on them later?

I think you should move them to an external hard drive until you are ready to work with them. I am fairly confident that any space saving moves will reduce the quality as well.

Yeah got ya. Thats not really an option I'm considering. Because I'm very disorgansied on this, moving them to an external is the same as deleting them for me:D. I can probably accept some reduction in quality I'm just not sure best way to go about. I only have iMovie, no FCP or anything fancy. (oh and the Go Pro app which is very confusing)

You can use handbrake (free I think) and experiment with compression levels to the point where you are comfortable with the quality and size. I wouldn't be surprised if you can squeeze 60 into 6GB.

You could also import them into iMovie and then export in a compressed format, then delete the originals.... but you don't get much fine control. But that may be good enough for you.
