Make sure the quick user switching menubar is showing and click "Login Window..." before you close the lid.

or have it prompt for your password when returning from sleep/screen saver.

yeah i know i can do that but is there a way to make it do that just by closing the lid?

In preferences, go to security. General. Check require password and make it say immediately.

that still doenst take you back to the login screen. i would love to be able to close the lid without doing anything then be able to have someone else be able to open it and log in with their account

No, there is no option for that.

In addition to what I said before, go to preferences, users, login options, turn fast user switching on. Now when you sleep (with the other security setting on) it will allow you to log into a different user by clicking switch user. this however, does not log you off. just suspends your user (which is better in my opinion)

Why do you want to log yourself out every time you put the computer to sleep?

because im an not the only one that uses this macbook so i need to keep all my files in one place not mixed with other peoples. and i dont even need it to log me off, only go back to the login screen. i would rather it just suspend my account

You can do exactly that if you set to prompt for password after sleep/screen saver. There is a button at the bottom of the lock screen that says, "Switch User".

your right! i have never seen that before. i was thinking go back to the normal lock screen but that will work. thanks so much!
