iPod touch God eveytime

God every time i get a new update i get a problem. Well i updated to the new 2.2.1 update then it was installing on my touch but boom i get a error message and now i have the plug ipod in screen. So i was force to put my touch in recover mode and restore everything again. Well its been restoring since 830 pm and when it finally was done i look at my ipod and all my stuff is still gone accept my notes wtf. Why do i always have a problem when there's a new update?
 
Also i had the ipod touch 1g and it was under my name then ipod but ever since i got the new ipod touch 2g , its now just called ipod. So how do i change it back to my name?
