It seems GoDaddy has issued a statement supporting SOPA. There is now a boycott of GoDaddy underway to switch domain providers and hurt GoDaddy in the wallet. GoDaddy has since recanted their position after the rucous they caused. Which is too little too late.

SOPA is the stop online piracy act. Which sounds nice going by the title. However, it is actually a measure that would force ISPs to block access to websites considered to be supporting piracy. This isn't something that can just block some little iffy site. But sites like Facebook, Youtube &c can be effected as well. Since some users post links to copyrighted files.

Companies and organizations such as Google, Microsoft, Electronic Frontier Foundation and the ACLU are all opposed to SOPA. This is internet censorship something that can just lead to further stronger censorship.

40 Internet companies opposed to SOPA.

I'll be pulling my domains and hosted accounts. If boycotting be sure to choose someone that doesn't actually sell GoDaddy domains under their name like Google does. Right now I'm considering namecheap.com.

Boycott went pretty successfully it seems.

However, just because GoDaddy issued a press release saying it doesn't make it true yet. Lets see them withdraw their name from the list of companies supporting SOPA formally and stop funding lobbyists that support SOPA. I doubt we'll actually see any of that; they'll just support it quietly.

I did say they recanted their position. They already stated support though. So that just means they still really support just no longer officially because of the backlash.

Just like anyone else being caught doing something wrong. Then recanting saying it is wrong to do.

Yes, you say in your post they recanted, but your headline still reads they support, which is why I wanted to post clearly

Saying they really support even though they recanted is a little misleading, especially with the headline IMO

I stopped dealing with godaddy, not because of this, but because I'm tired their marketing.

GoDaddy is a horrible hosting provider. I've had many clients who had terrible experiences with them. If you know anyone who still uses them, urge them into going somewhere else.

HostGator is a good alternative.

I 2nd the vote for HostGator. Great company, very responsive.

They still support it, just not publicly anymore.

I switched from GoDaddy right around the protest, but because I was tired of their support. I had a chain of emails where each response was 100% prefab and not related at all to my questions. I asked about server load, and they replied with instructions on how to buy a domain name.

Plus, I don't like SOPA, so that works well :D
