I am a careful owner that upgrades ever several years. This time jumping from iPhone 8 Plus to a 13 Pro Max.

My old phone has always been kept in a sturdy case with from glass protectors and a few of those got cracked from falls but the phone itself never got damaged even though when I remove the case some fine dust/grit does have left some scuff marks on the back.

I am now considering to buy Applecare+ and leaving the Pro Max naked. The difference in the pleasure of holding the naked phone is quite noticeable even versus a slim case.

An alternative would be using just a tempered glass screen protector.

An heavier alternative would be perhaps finding a slim case somewhat protecting the corners.

The more I read and the more I get confused about the most rational way to go forwards.

What would be your advice please? Thanks in advance

Used 12 mini naked back with tempered glass screen protector most of the time And I think is the best option available. But be careful because the Pro Max is bigger and could slide off your pant pokets more than Mini, I think.

Used my iphone 11 pro max naked for the whole time! Used my iphone 12 pro max for 9 months naked. Both were in pristine condition, not a single scratch! The only thing i used was a FitBag pouch which is super slim but protects the phone when its in your pocket.

My advice would always be to use a case and screen protector - but if you derive that much pleasure from holding a naked phone vs. using it in a case, I'd say do whatever feels best to you and live with the outcome. Since you've dropped your phone and cracked cases/screen protectors in the past, you realize it's a possibility in the future as well.

13 Pro Max user here. Naked phone all the way.

You are most likely to drop your phone when you take it out (of your pocket, purse, etc). So you get used to sliding it out of your pocket just a touch slower than before.

But really, once you get used to it, it's glorious to go without any case. Especially with the flat sides of this new phone.

what about, if you scratch the screen or dent it, apple care or Plus will NOT cover this, so you will have to live with it.. apple is not even putting on screen covers right now :/

I get the naked feeling of the larger phone, much more pocketable, seems much less in weight, infact, it doesn't seem big at ALL! (when its not in a case!)... heck its almost worth risking.. IMO

I wish I could use my phone without a case. I tend to mostly wear basketball shorts in the summer and joggers in the winter, and those pockets are really slippery. Putting a naked iPhone in there is just asking for it to fall out.

Your subject line is describing exactly what’s happening on a nearby beach:

Going around naked with protection for the Pro Max (e.g. Otterbox with full enclosure)

FitBags are AMAZING. I use one for my 11, and my only gripe is that when I had a tempered glass screen protector on it, a lot of pocket lint built up around the edge and eventually worked its way underneath. I eventually pulled that band aid off anyway.

Same here. It's been almost one year now and so far have no regrets. Cross fingers :)
Can you post pics of your iPhone's wear and tear? I think that would help a lot of people here who are on the fence about going naked with their iPhones :)

BTW, has anybody freaked out about it being naked? lmao I sometimes get "omg you don't use a case?!" 🤣
