Going back to firmware rev 3.1.3 on iTouch 2g MC

I upgraded to iOS 4 and hated it. I then wanted to go back to 3.1.3, but had no success. I was able to downgrade to 3.1.2, but I still cannot upgrade to 3.1.3. I get error 3194. I have done this in both restore and DFU mode. Any suggestions?

I have access to OS Fail 10.6, WinBl0wz, and several Linux distros if it matters.
