iPhone 12 Pro Going caseless - Any experience with how the camera holds up?

I just got my new iPhone 12 Pro Max and I'm thinking about going caseless since this phone is pretty large and going caseless will reduce some of the downsides to the extra size (a case just adds a bit more bulk). However after my first day of going caseless, I couldn't get over the way the camera rests on surfaces when I put my phone down. It's just something I'm not used to, and it makes me uneasy. I know the camera has a sapphire coating but somehow I have managed to damage the sapphire crystal on watches before, so while it's super strong I know it's not impossible to damage it.

I'm wondering if anybody has experience with let's say the iPhone 11 going caseless. Hav you ever scratched your camera lens by setting your phone down screen side up on a granite countertop for example? If nobody has had a problem with previous generations, I probably won't have a problem with this phone but otherwise I'm probably going to need to get a case so the camera glass isn't potentially getting scratched every time I set it down.

Just to hop off your thread, as I am also running caselessdoes anyone know if those glass camera lens protectors are any good?

My fear is that while they may protect the lens slightly, it might cloud up the photo quality - anyone know whether or not that is the case?

So far, my iPhone 12 has been holding up but I put it in a belt pouch which I suspect is highly unpopular here.

The sapphire is a solid crystal - not a coating. It's honestly going to be the last thing on the phone to break or show any damage. Don't worry about it.

I went caseless with iPhone 4 and iPhone 5 for two years each, and one year each with iPhone XS and iPhone 11 Pro Max. No impact on the camera lenses whatsoever. My 12 Pro Max is caseless and will remain so.

If you are concerned, keep a small microfiber cloth in your phone pocket. That way, if you need to put the phone down on a table etc., you will have the cloth to rest it on.

I have never gone caseless (buying iPhones since 4s) but, I am considering it with the mini.

Im caseless as well but i do have a screen protector, i always put my phone with the screen face down. (To protect the camera, not because im having an affair or anything 😁)
Carry on

My regular screen protector actually came with one -- I tried it but really didn't like it. I was concerned about the optics and another layer of glass to go through, even though I aligned it correctly. Ended up popping it off and just using my Apple leather case.

I'd love to go caseless but I know I'll cringe at the first scratch on the pacific blue body heh.

I always used my phones naked. Here is a video I took of my 11PM before replacing it via AC+ for a new unit. If you pause the video when I flip it around, the lenses on the camera are unscathed and in pristine condition. The banding around the lenses are another story. They have light scratches on the metal coating. I've dropped the phone countless times on all surfaces.

The camera lenses on my caseless iPhone 3GS, my 4, my 4s, my 5, my 6s+ and my 6th Gen iPad all say you have nothing to worry about.

The lenses on the cameras are far tougher than the screen, the back or the sides, chances of them being damaged are slim with or without a case.

The screen, the back or the sides well that's a different story...
