Going from 4.2.1 to newest JB.....How?

Do I need to update via iTunes then JB again? Or is there a way to update to newest JB another way where I don't lose my current JB? I used untethered greenpoison if that matters.

All of the information you seek is readily available on the interwebz, however, I am feeling nice today.

You cannot keep your current jailbreak but you can use a program called "Pkgbackup" in Cydia to back up your jailbreak apps, settings, everything. I highly recommend it.

Once you have used Pkgbackup, or at least written your packages down, plug into iTunes and make a backup.

Once your backup is complete update to the newest firmware. Once it's done select the backup you just made to get your non jailbroken stuff the way it was.

Jailbreak using redsn0w_win_0.9.6rc14. Go into Cydia, download Pkgbackup and reinstall your backup (or manually add your packages/repos with your list you wrote down)
