To anyone else who has made this change:
Is the difference in screen size really that noticeable?

same resolution you'll be fine, the only difference you'll notice is the screen size itself, I went from 15 HP to 15 MBP with hi-res screen and I'm still getting used to everything being much smaller vs my old screen

Maybe I should have worded it differently.
Have you been able to adjust to the change?
They are both 1280x800

If they are both 1280x800, you'll have no more, no less room on the screen. In that respect you should be fine.
But the screen is smaller, so things will naturally be physically smaller. Therefore it might take some time to get used to it, but I don't think it will be a problem...

Probably what you will notice is how bad the Dell's screen looks by comparison. I've tried to use a 15" Dell laptop (1280x800) after using my 13" aluminum Macbook, and the low pixel density on the Dell really bugged me.

Depends.

You will hear mixed things.

I had a classic 15" MBP and 15" MBP unibody, and i7 15" antiglare (great looking screen, too small though at night for me) all after having a first gen 13" plastic white MacBook.

I love my 13" MBP (exchanges aside, had some defects). 1440x900 (standard res on 15") actually has a lower pixel density than 1280x800 on 13" (only resolution option).

1680x1050 looks great (high res 15" option) but it's too small for me.

13" will be great for travelling. Good luck!

- Which DELL laptops is it that you guys have been using? 1280x800 is an extremely low resolution for a 15,4 inch display.
I have a 15,4 inch DELL in the household, its resolution is 1680x1050 and it's not particularly new (3-4 years old I think).

I actually just purchased a 13" MBP and for years used a 17" Dell laptop. I have adjusted just fine to the MBP. Yes, the screen is smaller, but it's not too small, and everything about the computer compensates for the smaller size. I have a 21.5" iMac and wanted a portable laptop. The 13" was just the thing for me, and I have no regrets. I've now made a total switch from Windows/PCs to Mac-OS/Apple and I couldn't be happier!

I agree. I'm very happy with the screen resolution on the MBP 13". One of the first things I did with it was to take it away with me this weekend. I watched two DVDs on it. The resolution was beautiful, and unlike my Dell, there was no lag at all on the video. It was like watching a TV - albeit a small one.

I also just ordered a Booq Vyper XS3 case for the MBP and will return the Incase sleeve I bought last week. Didn't like it!
