I'm looking to upgrade soon from my 2016 MBP nTB and was only considering the 2017 version of my MBP.
Compared to the 2016 nTB base model, the 2017 nTB base model is ~30% faster in multithreading!!!. Then I saw that the top spec (1.4 GHz) 2017 MB was ~8% faster than my base spec 2016 nTB!!! (Geekbench 4). Similar results for single core performance.
(Interestingly 2017 base spec 2.3 GHz MBP nTB is FASTER than the 2017 3.1 GHz MBP TB in both single and multi core, according to Geekbench 4. Why???)
So, for the same price I could get:
MPB 2017 nTB
256 GB
2.3 GHz
8 GB
or
MB 2017
256 GB
1.4 GHz
8 GB
Here are some pros and cons about upgrading to a MB 2017 high spec, compared to a 2017 MBP base nTB for me.
Pro's:
Lighter, smaller, more likely I'll bring it with me to places more that a MBP
Just as fast as my 2016 MBP nTB.
Better battery life.
Con's:
Lower screen brightness.
Poorer speakers.
Lower screen resolution.
Less powerful (although still more powerful than my [what will be] old 2016 MBP nTB.
My use in order of : Browsing, Word, Excel, FCPX occasionally (iPhone footage), no gaming.
