Has anyone gone from using Apple Vision Pro with contacts to using it with the ZEISS lens inserts? I’ve been enjoying the experience but have definitely had some eye fatigue with my contacts.

I’m thinking about getting the lens inserts but I’m not sure how this would change the experience. It looks like I’d be going from a 21W light seal to a 25W. Will that majorly affect the FOV? Are there any downsides?

I am in the process of making the transition. I went from nothing to readers and now my own custom prescription lenses. I was worried my eyes were working too hard with the normal display. I feel like the field of view is an issue. I went from 21W to 25W. I am going to try a 23N tomorrow because the 25W will say that my eyes are too far away from the lense.

I think whatever math Apple is doing wildly overcompensates for lens size for most people, especially for anyone with a mild prescription (+/- 3 diopters or so). In my case even with the lens inserts I had no problems with a 21W (though it took the slight extra spacing of the W+ cushion to avoid eyes-too-close errors), and I think for most people without extreme prescriptions the 21W or 23W should be fine, basically just depending on how big your eyes and eyelashes are.

From my brief comparison in store, the difference between the 23N and 23W is that the N version is narrower at the sides instead of spreading out the part that meets the face, but it has the same depth and everything else. If you don't have any light leakage with the W version there's no reason to go with the N.

I decided to order the lens inserts this past Monday after using the AVP in contacts for the first 3 days. I mainly wear glasses when I'm at home.

I also have a 21W light seal and decided to ignore Apple's recommendation on the mobile fitting to get the 25W when ordering the inserts. When I was picking up at the store last week the specialists told me I shouldn't need a different light seal if I decided to get the inserts later.

I ended up ordering the lenses on Monday and they just arrived yesterday. I am very glad I did not bother with the 25W, the light seals that end with a smaller second number are closer to the face so the FOV is better in them.

Very happy with the lens inserts as well, everything is noticeably better with the inserts compared to contacts.

  • The FOV is noticeably wider with the inserts, provided you use the same light seal.
  • Eye tracking is much more accurate - I think Apple needs to improve the eye tracking a bit for contact wearers
  • Everything feels much crisper, probably because foveated rendering is more accurate due to better eye tracking

I have the inserts and using 25W - I guess I’ll go back to the store and try 21W and 23W to see if it works for me.

How is it with the 25W, too narrow a FOV? I’ve been using a 21W with contacts and have been completely satisfied with the FOV, just not with the eye irritation from my contacts while using it.

Thanks for the post. I hesitated ordering the lenses because I didn't want to order an additional light seal.

One more quick question, if you switch between contacts and lenses, do you have to recalibrate your eyes each time?
