I couldn't wait for my iPhone 4S to come to try out iOS 5 so I updated my iPhone 4 to iOS 5 and I signed up to iCloud (with backup). When I get the iPhone 4S activated, is iCloud smart enough to reassign the backup to the new phone or will it start a separate partition (like, I guess, a separate Time Machine partition) for the new device. Will I get the whole 5 GB devoted to the new device? Should I just back up the old phone to my computer first and delete the iCloud backup before I activate the iPhone 4S and re-sign up to iCloud? Any other problems or precaution steps to take?
