In July 2019 I picked up the latest revision of the 15" MBP. 2.3ghz i9/16GB/512GB SSD/560X. They keyboard was a little better, but obviously the 16" is a big upgrade for those of us that didn't like the feel of the butterfly keys. I picked up the first one off the truck at my local Best Buy with the same 2.3ghz i9, 16GB Ram, but with the bigger 1TB drive and much faster 4GB 5500m GPU.

It looks like it will be about a $800 upgrade with the costs to sell my current machine. Or I could continue to use the May-2019 15" until the next update for the 16", maybe with cheaper ram, even better GPUs and update webcam and wifi.

As someone that does 2-3 hours of Final Cut Pro work each week, some Logic Pro X work and mostly productivity work. I guess one condolence is that this is a business expense. I could more than live with the power of the 15", I just could use the added space on the SSD (up to 1TB), faster GPU for effects and work in Final Cut X. What would you do?

Hello,

I recently purchased the 15.4 in macbook prior to the update, I considered what you are going to do but will the 16 inch actually change work flow? Is the keyboard still working well? 800 is a steep cost, unless you're wealthy then sure why not. I would at least consider waiting few more years and upgrading, I doubt it will depreciate much more than it already has now in the next 2-3 years, possibly 200ish more.

If its me I'm doing the upgrade. If you are thinking of waiting, your 15" MBP is only going to depreciate with time and you are going to lose even more the longer you wait to upgrade. I don't think there are going to be a lot of people clamoring for a keyboard that is prone to failure, but that's must my opinion.

I sold my 2018 earlier this year because I hated the keyboard so much. The 2016 to me is better in every regard and I think its worth upgrading to.

With that being said, Apple is going to release another one next year with even better specs, but that's going to be the case with technology every year. As soon as you buy the current one, a better spec'd one is right around the corner. The thing is though, with where this MacBook line is right now, they are going to be marginal improvements next year.
