So I'm awaiting delivery of a 15" rMBP with a 256gb SSD. I've also gotten a new BUS-powered 1.5 TB USB 3 external HDD.
I'd like to do a Boot Camp install, purely for gaming purposes.
I'm okay with adding the Boot Camp partition to the SSD (I'm going with a data-light OS install and offloading my hoarded media files to the external drive.)
My questions are twofold:
What version of Windows is best for this? The install is purely for gaming, so I'm looking for compatibility, speed, and a relatively low data footprint. Should I stick with 7 or are games going to abandon it for 8?
Second: Is there any way to store games (Steam or otherwise) on a Windows partition on the external drive? In essence, installing Windows on the SSD and the games on the HDD.
Also, I bought the USB 3 drive, but I haven't opened it. Should I exchange it for a Thunderbolt drive? Would that be better/necessary for games installed on it?
All the components in question are brand new and as such I can monkey with them to my heart's content without risking any of my data.
Thanks for taking the time and looking forward to your feedback!
