Going to Canada, what do I need to do?

Going on a weekend trip to Canada next week currently on Verizon and have an iPhone 6. Was looking at getting one of those international plans but don't know if I really need one. Basically was just going to use data for google maps for directions. Other than that I'll be texting and FaceTime audio on wifi. Is it really worth it to get the plan or is there a better way to use my phone up there?
