going to get "iPhone 5"...first one, whats the process like?

So i am planning on getting the new iPhone that comes out, whatever it may be. I expect it to be straight forward but want to be sure.

1)After they announce it, it will be available for preorder in what, a week or 2? Do they give you a time exactly?? or is it at midnight on whatever day they say??

2)how quickly do they sell out preorder wise, will i have to get up at earliest they are available for preorder to secure one?

3)Also what credentials will the apple site request, iTunes account, at&t account, etc??

1. They will say all that info at the press conference

2. You should act as quickly as possible.

Again, no way to compare since last year was the first time, and last year pre-ordering became available like at 1-2am.

2)how quickly do they sell out preorder wise, will i have to get up at earliest they are available for preorder to secure one? Apple generally announces a start date and a order-by date, if you can get your order in before the cut-off, then you should be fine.

3)Also what credentials will the apple site request, iTunes account, at&t account, etc?? Phone number, Last 4 of your social, Zip Code

AT&T was the easiest last year. I placed my order for two the moment they went live online. The phones actually arrived the day _before_ the official launch date.

It was so easy it only took five minutes. So I went to the Apple site for two more, since there are four in the family.

The Apple site was jammed, I had to repeatedly try over and over and over for about 90 minutes till I got through. Then the order took about 30 minutes it was very cumbersome.

The Apple phones got cancelled, so I had to reorder, it was a problem with Apple's system that kicked out many people I know.

Finally the two that I ordered from Apple arrived, but one full week later. What a pain.
 
I was wondering the same thing as the OP, this will be my first iPhone and I have Verizon, would it be easier to go on the Verizon website to preorder, or the Apple site?
 
Not trying to thread hijack, but I didn't want to start a thread to ask a very specific question. Doing my best to not clutter the forum....

Based on last year's experience, if you were to preorder a phone, is there a point in camping or showing up early?

i don't see the point of waiting/camping either with online, although preorders won't last forever, also if they don't want to wait for the phone to ship.... but you should get it on release date if your preorder lol, not sure

Preorders are first come first served if you're referring to the type where they give you a "reservation." Or do you mean actually buying it and having it shipped?

oh, i thought he meant having it shipped, i guess he meant reserve type of a thing
 
If the iPhone comes out about a week before my scheduled upgrade eligible date, would I still be able to pre-order it at the subsidized price?
 
Good luck getting one on day one. It will be hard. All of us want one and apple is releasing on two major carriers and possibly Sprint as well.

They struggled to release with just AT&T last year. In fact, the site went down for hours and days.

Yeah, either line up in a store really early or be on the lookout on MacRumors when they say pre-orders are available
