I am about to start a new website with iWeb '09 and I am planning to try to make money with the website.

I have previous experience with various types of websites and I love designing and developing different things for a variety of uses. I have created buttons for websites, templates, and more.

Designing templates and web elements have never really worked for me, though. I always end up procrastinating on my next design because I think it is too boring to create that stuff.

I do want to create a new website now, preferably with a forum. Does anyone have any ideas on what to design the website on, like a theme?

If you are not sure, what would YOU be interested in reading about. Any positive responses would be great. Please refrain from any criticism.

Thanks a lot, I am excited to see the responses!

You have to start a website about something you are passionate about. If it is something that someone else wants, and you don't like the idea, the site won't go anywhere.

I understand that completely.
The thing is that I don't know what website I would create with things that I am passionate about.

I am trying to get some ideas and if I find them interesting as well, then I will pursue with that idea.

I am trying to find something that will bring in some profit as well, so I am quite stumped there as well.

How about a "bulletin board" site where people can pay you to host their ads/content and others can browse it?

Not really like Craigslist or eBay - you're not selling anything

Ah ok I'm with ya...

...so I could use like a database and steal a PHP script that I can use.

Do you know what that is called, like the specific name of that type of thing?
(for the domain name and header or description).

Thanks for the idea BTW

maybe you should refrain from polluting the interwebs till you can write your own php, and learn how to use 'like, a database.'

Where could I find a PHP script for that though?

Like people would have to pay first and then be granted access to a page to post their content?

If this is actually your plan, you need to do some serious rethinking. Mostly the iWeb part.

Agreed. The OP is taking the wrong approach here. Other than the iWeb part, being focused solely on making money is the other problem.

Building a website before deciding what content you want to put on it is like making a spear with no tip - pointless.

Why are you building the site? What is its purpose ?
What message or product do you want your viewers/customers to see and respond to?

Once you know the purpose you can create the content,
Once you have the content (or know the majority of it) you can then start looking at functionality and design.

Then you can choose to use iWeb (if you're desperate) or online web building sites (weebly, webs etc), CMS (wp, joomla, drupal etc) or choose to hand code it.

Without knowing what it is you want to create or what you need to build for the site, you have little vision of what you want the end result to be. That can hardly ever be good - for the end result or the learning process.

Just my 2 pennies worth (I'm from UK so dont have any cents)

Since you guys have been so helpful in inspiring the OP, perhaps you can help me as well.

I was thinking of starting a business. I'm not sure what it will do, but I know I want to make money. I've heard that there are a lot of successful people running businesses and making tons of money, and I want in on this.

Any ideas? Can you point me to any step-by-step instruction books, or maybe an existing company that I could just copy?

Do I need to worry about any of this "accounting" stuff?

Since you and I have the same problem and not sure of what to start the business on, why don't we work together?

I can create a Google AdSense account and post my website and add links to make money.

The only problem will be what to create the website on and how to share the content once we have figured out the topic.

Tell me what you think.

You really need to have your sarcasm detector calibrated.

Going to make some money, got ideas?

What do you want to buy from me so I can make some money?

this idea might just work

1. Copy this entire post (cmd+c)
2. Paste and save as protected pdf
3. upload to your site
4. market your site as the easy way to fast interweb profits
5. Sell the PDF with password for $49
6. retire early!!!
7. Yay!

That nice you are thinking of creating a website but according to me an effective website should be prepared with full planning & following are the points which must be highly focused while making a website.

  1. Create Domain Name (Unique)
  2. Write Unique & Meaningful Content
  3. Use clean & Valid coding
  4. Always insert Individual Title tags
  5. Clean Consistent Layout and Navigation system

Following are the thing which you have to strictly avoid:

  1. Ignore Splash Pages Usage
  2. Avoid use frames and inline frames
  3. Strictly Avoid using duplicate content
  4. Ignore Using Flash websites
  5. Avoid using Too much animation
These are the points which are strictly followed by me & that is the reason that my website increases its PR day by day:)

Social networking sites are big at the moment, do one of them. There are quite a few open source systems you can install for that.

I run five websites, though they're mostly quite specialised, and I actually make a loss on them each year. I have yet to compromise the quality of my sites with those stupid Google ads or anything.

You will get nowhere, though, if you're willing to make a site about absolutely anything just for money. Even the big entrepreneurs will tell you that, actually, to be successful at something, you need to be passionate about it.

Any way I can get in on this? My DREAM is to sit back and do nothing and have other people do the work that makes me money as I am completely devoid of any creativity or vision at all.
