Hello,

I'm going to the US for 10 months to study a vocational course. Throughout my duration of stay there, I will require the use of mobile telephony services. To note, I will be staying in Melbourne, Florida.

I'd like to know what my options are with regards to using my iPhone abroad for such a long time, along with my iPad.

Thanks.

Verizon, AT&T, and Sprint are the iPhone 4S carriers. For iPad you have Verizon and AT&T.

There are also smaller carriers but I can't remember who they are or where they're located.

Verizon and Sprint wont work with your iPad you need GSM carriers.iPad is easy AT&T and activate the iPad data plan iPads are sim unlocked.Does your carrier unlock iPhones?

Thanks,

I should note that Apple sells the iPhone as unlocked in the UK, so that is fine.

What data plans would you suggest for me?

Don't come to the States. After the upcoming Big Collapse, this country will look like the Road Warrior movies, or the book The Road.

Well anything you do will have to be on prepaid,I dont THINK you can get monthly billed without having a credit score.

AT&T asks $500 or so for deposit if you don't have an SSN and still want the usual kind of monthly contract for iPhone or similar smart phones. You'll get that $500 back in a year or two, I think. Or at least it was like that last year. Not sure if other carriers hold the same kind of policy. Non-monthly contracts sucked too if you want fancy phones, I remember correctly.

Don't forget the tax. :p

That sounds reasonable for the US. They don't seem to have the cheap SIM only packages we've got over here.

:eek::eek::eek:

Verizon iPad + tethering might come in handy then lmao.

Welcome to the Land of the Free*

*Plus tax

I don't text much, so I could possibly get away with the GoPhone $2/day with the $25 500MB option. (It makes my £15 unlimited data look like a house now).

I do most calling via Skype, but I'll probably do that from home, where I should have Wifi or ethernet access. I'll need to watch my usage.

In 3 days, I've already used 40MB of data transfer :/

Wow, what have you been downloading?

I struggle to use 100-120mb a month!

I did some browsing of pages in the morning for about an hour, forgot that the phone wasn't connected to WiFi :/
