I've decided I want to buy my first Apple Watch this year. I know that I want to buy an aluminum version size 42 mm - this increased cost just for looks isn't worth it to me (I know they also have the sapphire screen, but still can't justify the price. $400 is a lot as it is!).

I originally went back and forth between the silver aluminum and space gray until I decided I would just go with the space gray (I don't like a white band on me and the silver felt a little too light as well). In my indesiciveness, I waited until last week to place my order and have been looking everywhere trying to find a space gray with nylon band in stock, but not having any luck.

All this being said, every time I go to the Apple Store app to check stock, I see that gold aluminum with the cocoa sport band and I can't help but think how classy that looks...

I'm not bold person (and I know to some people gold aluminum would not be a BOLD choice, but to me it feels like it is) so it's kind of difficult to take the risk and see if I like it. I'm not sure I can pull it off. However, with the space gray, I was looking at getting a black Milanese and maybe a black sport band to go with it. Kind of bland...

But when I realized that I really like the way the black Milanese looks on the gold watch, I was shocked!

So, people with the gold watch - does it feel silly to wear it when you are dressed fully casual? Does the gold watch have similar problems with "chipping" and "scratching" I've heard some space gray people have? Can a large 6ft white man pull off an aluminum gold Apple Watch? If you have any pictures, I'd love to see them too!

Entertaining post, not sure what to say but maybe go try some on at the store. I think the Stainless (both colors) look classiest, but for aluminum I prefer the darker space gray. The new color bands do add new choices. Sorry I can't really help about colors for you..

i have space grey and love it, the big disadvantage though is that most bands besides the silicon one look bad in my opinion because most don't have matching dark/space grey connectors

I did go to the store to try some on... got the most unhelpful associate who seemed like he didn't want to be there at all and their stock for trying on was pathetic. I was highly disappointed.

I haven't really seen them in person, but from all the pictures I've seen, I think I would be ok with a silver connector with the right band... but as stated above, if I go this route, I'd probably get a black Milanese or black link band, the black nylon band, and maybe be wild and find like an orange sport or something for times when I'm in the water

It's not as gold as you'd think - it's a duller, flat gold that doesn't look too flashy, at least to my eye. I generally hate gold on watches, but for some reason, I really like the gold aluminum.

I had the original silver sport but picked up the gold sport with cocoa band this time around, I think it looks a little more classy than the silver but with the brushed aluminium finish it's quite subtle.

The trade off is being able to find bands that carry the gold finish through lugs and clasps but I picked up a couple of leather bands from Monoware that I am very happy with.

Is this the coffee/caramel nylon band? Your pictures just convince me to lean towards the gold!

I like the band options you found! I'm dont think I'm worried too much about the lugs... the brown leather straps are nice and might have a place one day, but I'm certainly more drawn to the black bands and I don't mind the black lugs on the gold watch.. perhaps it's due to the black screen?

My preference lies with my stainless Watch. But the cocoa band is a nice color. The gold aluminum Watch is subtle Gold, which looks great.

I had this dilemma too, but decided to remain with my Series 0 choice when buying the Series 2, and stick with Space Grey. I just didn't think I could rock the Gold.

Yep, picked it up last week. Looks pretty good, I think.

Do you guys dress casual much? How do you feel like the watch looks with shorts and a teeshirt? I think that's one of my concerns... when business casual for work it will work fine, but when I'm out on the weekends in shorts and a teeshirt, is it going to look silly? Or do you not notice?

What do you guys think of the gold watch with silver milanese band?

I can't speak from seeing it in person, but according to how it looks on mixyourwatch.com, I don't care for it. I wouldn't say it looks bad though. I think I just prefer the black Milanese with it.

I originally wanted the gold but after trying them on I decided it stood out too much and I got the space grey. I also got the nylon band and I hated it. Ended up buying a few bands off amazon including a sport band. All three are better than the nylon band, its stiff, not smooth, not breathable, and just unpleasant to wear. My favourites are a milanese I got from amazon and a third party sport band (also from amazon)

That's unfortunate about the nylon! I haven't got to try it on yet... (read my comment above about my terrible Apple Store experience). Can you link the Milanese and sport bands you bought?

Thanks for the picks. I bought a midnight blue sport band on Amazon, and its fine but I was thinking of getting the nylon. Gold watch, like yours. Any recommendations for the band? Is your nylon comfortable?

You can pull of anything. Get what you want and don't worry about how it looks to others. Any time I go with my head rather than my heart, I end up regretting it.

I know you are right... I guess I really need to try it on. Perhaps later this week I can call and see if they have more stock for trying on.

When I was in there 2 weekends ago, they hardly had anything. I saw a space gray 42 mm and I think that was the ONLY 42 mm they had. The rest were 38's. And it looked like they just had mostly sport bands... maybe a Milanese? The 38 nylon bands didn't look like they would even fit me.

Would still be curious to know what people think of the gold watch with causal wear...

Actually I bought a nylon band and I love it. I find it way more breathable than the sports bands. I'd say try it and if you don't like it, return it or try it in the store.

I'm personally not a fan of gold coloring in general but I've seen some coworkers with the gold apple watch and they aren't fancy people and my work is fairly laid back.

I would normally agree with you about not being a fan of gold in general... but there's something about that gold/cocoa band in the picture. Or gold and black milanese loop... That's part of my hesitation as well ;) (I purposefully chose not to have a yellow gold wedding band)

Gold aluminum 42mm with the black sport band. Bought it in September last year when they came out and have been wearing it every day since. Has held up exceptionally well without any scratches or nicks or anything. I wear gold rings on both hands and I like how it matches, though when I get a Series 2 I may go with the classic silver.

And yes it says 102 though it hit 105 earlier here on the coast in San Diego. Santa Anas are in full swing today, ugh :(

both of them were Moko brand. I am in Canada so amazon.ca links won't do you much good
