YEAHHHH.

Do I need to back up everything first, or am I okay to just install straight away after buying it?

I don't really know what am doing, but am VERY EXCITED.

Backing up your data is always important, unless it is data you can easily reacquire or re-download. So if the data on your Mac is important to you, I know my data is, then back it up, especially before an OS upgrade. Maybe even back it up twice.

I have my personal data backed up twice, thus three copies of that data exist.

Am going to back up my documents/music/pics etc, but there's some software that came pre-installed on my Mac which I don't have copies of. They're legitimate applications, I just bought my MacBook form a third party company and they gave me free software.
