My friend is selling a macbook pro 13" mid 2012 for $550. It has a 2.5ghz i5 processor and 500 GB on the hard drive and 8 GB of RAM. Is this worth the buy?

Great buy unless it's dented or damanged, swap out that hard drive for an SSD and you'll have a pretty kick ass machine.
Thats a pretty good deal. I paid $500 for the late-2011 version of that machine which doesn't have Bluetooth 4 or USB 3.0.
The last few auctions on ebay have ended at 520-550 for the 4gb model. Your friend's has 8GB so that makes it a decent deal.
