I think you did fairly well. Sure, there will be fees removed from your final price but with a 5S going for only $50. to $100. more, both you and the buyer received a fair shake out of this transaction.

I'm pretty pleased as well. I lost $36 in fees but that leaves more than enough to buy the iPhone 6 when it comes out. :)

Op, what phone are you using in lieu of the iPhone?

I bought a sim adapter so that I could put the sim from the iPhone 5 into my original iPhone. I'm just worried that doing so might mess up my unlimited data plan somehow. I need to go to the AT&T store tomorrow and ask them if that is all right. Otherwise I may just buy some cheap flip phone to use in the meantime. AT&T said they could sell me a "candy bar" phone to use for a few weeks for like $15.

Sold my 16GB 5S on eBay for $550 about a week ago.

You got away with one there. Whoever bought that bought it at a terrible price, as $550 will most likely be the price for the 5S (or 5S replacement) when the 6 comes out. New at $550 in like 3 weeks, or used for $550 now. You decide.

That is the point in selling BEFORE the next iPhone announcement. Not everyone is an Apple geek who lives on MacRumors. Your average consumer is oblivious to when a new iPhone is coming.

I think i purchased mine for 450-475 a year ago, iphone 5 16gb at&t unlocked, you shouldnt have done BIN though

Just got my original iPhone activated through iTunes to use between now and when the iPhone 6 comes out. OH MAY GOD! What a nightmare. Painfully slow. It's gonna be a LONG 3 weeks. Oh well. I will get a free, long lesson in patience.

That's pretty good. I sold mine back in February and got about $450 for my iPhone 5 32GB AT&T unlocked version. eBay/PayPal fees suck though.

I understand this, but it still does not hide that fact that they easily got away with one. Hell, an average consumer should know that $100 off of a $650 device, especially used, isn't a good deal.

Whether or not $100 off retail for a used device is a "good deal" is a matter of opinion. Things are worth what people are willing to pay for them. Simple as that. If something is of high quality, then it is more likely to be able to hold a higher value for longer than the average. Kinda like the Kelly Blue Book value of of used cars. Hondas and Toyotas are valued higher than competing cars from Ford and Chevy from the same year. Hondas and Toyotas have a reputation for being high quality and being more reliable over time. The value of a used one is largely dependent on what people are willing to pay for it... and supply/demand.

That being said, with your "$100 off" assessment of the used iPhone selling for $550... you did not take into consideration the sales tax. Here in AZ, tax is 9.1%. So that adds $59.15 to your new "$650 iPhone."

This is why I advocate waiting to sell. It's worth $30 off the purchase price to not have to deal with that.

You can try a go phone, but honestly, it's a pain and there is at least one fee you'll get hit with.

But it's not just a $30 difference selling now vs. selling later. It is more like a $100 difference.

In pretty sure I can make it until launch day. I still have my iPad Air and iPound Touch 5.

I got a question if i was to sell my iPhone before the event but will that effect my Verizon account at all or will Verizon make me activate a another phone as I want to just use a older cellphone on t-mobile prepaid till i can order the new iPhone.
