I want to buy a mac for my kids, but can only afford used. Considering buying a 2008 iMac with 24" display, 2.5ghz and 4gb ram with a slight superdrive issue (doesn't always read dvds/cds). external drive included. Lion loaded. We plan to use it mostly for writing, internet, photos management, garage band and possibly some other music programs. Asking $600, thought i'd offer $500-550. Yes? Or too old/too much?

Ask if the seller still has the Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard Upgrade DVD, as Lion will be bound to the sellers iTunes / Mac App Store (MAS) account, thus in case of you having to download it again, you will have to buy it again.
As for the price, 600 USD may sound fair, but you can get a 2011 iMac via the refurbished Store for less than 1000 USD.
