Hey All,

So I've been after a retina MacBook for years, where I've has the trusty old 2012 13" MacBook Pro classic. I've just come to the UK to visit family where my younger brother of all has a early 2013 13" MacBook Pro which he's offered me for £300 or about $350 USD. The unit is pretty mint with a only 58 battery cycles and holding 96% of overall design charge, with 256GB storage which I can live with since I've got a time machine at home. But due to the upcoming MacBook Air being released in the next coming weeks I'm torn as to what I should get, and I leave the UK in 5 days, soI have to make a choice pretty quickly.

What would you guy suggest? My typical usage is consuming while on the move/travelling, light video/photo editing and typical windows applications usage.

For the condition and battery count it seems like a pretty good deal from what I can tell, seeing as it‘s not that old, seems decently spec‘d and should get the newest OS for at least a few more years. Then again, I highly advise comparing it to what other models of the same age and specs sell for – definitely check eBay and other sites to find offers for the comparable model. My guess is that it will turn out to be a relatively good deal in comparison, but then again I don‘t know it for certain.

Outside of that, you know best what kind of machine you‘d like. It‘s a safe bet that the new rumored entry-level MacBooks will be superior to that machine in pretty much every way and the much nicer and more future-proof option going forward, but it will also be significantly more expensive (rumors are it‘s going to start at $999 – and that might possibly just be the 128GB model, unlike the one in your offer which has 256GB). For your use cases, it sounds like the machine from your brother seems sufficient, but then again the experience might differ a lot between that model and a new one.

If it turns out to be a good deal compared to eBay-offers for the same model and the like, then I‘d probably take it. Even if it does turn out to be insufficient for your needs sometime down the line, you should be able to sell it for a comparable price in that case without making much of a loss and upgrading to a new one.

Thanks for the feedback. From looking online at eBay and fb market, it looks like I'm about $200 USD cheaper than whats on offer. I think for me ill probably take it, although ill deliberate it over the next few days. I'm sure this laptop will survive up until the next refresh where hopefully Cannonlake will be released, 1080p camera and LPDDR4 RAM will be in the new MacBooks. But at the same time they do offer some pretty good value at the moment.......1st world problems hey?
