A long while back, someone on these forums suggested a good HD enclosure with a particular chipset (Oxford?) to me, but I can't remember now what brand it was. I am needing something to hold an old 3.5" Western Digital Caviar 60GB ATA drive formatted NTFS from an old Windows 2000 desktop so I can copy my old files to my MacBook.
I just need something simple (without lots of LEDs and fins and decorations and such) and compact, with a good chipset that I can count on not to ruin the drive or corrupt data as it's transferred. I am hoping not to spend more than $30 or so, if that's possible. I do not plan on using this enclosure for long periods beyond the initial transfer, so it doesn't even really need to have a fan. I would be willing to spend a little more if it supported PATA and SATA drives, since I could then pop a new drive in there and use it for occasional backups after I'm done with the old drive (I already have another drive for that now, though, so it's not essential).
If anyone could suggest an enclosure or give me a heads up for anything I should be aware of before I buy one, I would be very grateful. Thanks in advance.
