I work at a big box store in the camera department and get asked about how to edit on these platforms.

I was curious if there were some good youtube tutorials you could point me in the direction of?

Looking for basic editing of home movies.

I never found any and ended up subscribing to lynda.com. That site is well worth the money if you want quality how-to videos.

Agree. Another site is
http://www.macprovideo.com/tutorials/finalcutpro-application
This site is like the above but more specialized.

Well worth the $25 price.

BIG WARNING: Knowwing how to work the software is NOT the same as knowing how to edit video. It's like knowing how to use a word processor is not the same a knowing how to write a novel. To few people understand the difference. So look for film making books not "how to use FCP" books. Learning the software is easy if you just mess around for a while. Learning to make stuff people will want to look at is hard.

Excellent post!

Thanks for the warning about edits. I know all too well what that looks like.
These are just for home movies for other people, so I'm not too worried.

I'm sure there must a good one or two there.

The trouble is just that there are hundreds of "How the edit with FCP X" Youtube videos. You would have to spend weeks sorting the good ones from the not-good and bookmarking them. the two sites Lynda and Mac ProVideo both have many hours of video tutor that have high production values. $25 for unlimited access is not a lot to pay.
