I'm trying to figure out what's a good balance of performance and value for my new MBP.

I plan on using a lot of Maya, kinemac, Photoshop....and this will be my main computer.

I'm trying not to spend over $2000 here.

Basically I need to decide among the following configurations.

4gb or 8gb
750GB 5400RPM vs 500 7200RPM
6490M vs 6750M (obviously 2.0 GHz vs 2.2)

If none of the above configurations will make a huge difference then forget it.

Get the macbook pro with 1gb videocard and upgrade the ram to 8 gb later. The switch from 750gb5400 to 5000gb7200 is free. Get hires if you like. Anything below this will be a pain rendering. I bought the base 17" with 500gb 7200 for the same work

Great...figured I go that route.

Another problem is that I really want to get the High Res screen, but that model isn't available on Amazon.

If I get it on apple (with student discount) the taxes bring it to approx $2300
