anybody know of some great music making software they'd reccommed for a casual musician for the iPad 2?

Do you mean outside of GarageBand? Especially since you can use it to make good music even for casual musicians.

Yeah, I downloaded the iMS-20 from korg (32.99+tax) and it's PERFECT! is there anything similar to this for the iPad?

there's heapsssssssssssssssssssssssssss of amazing music apps for the iPad. give beatmaker 2 a try. has lots of great features (ie midi sequencing, loops, samples based songwriting, in-built good quality soundbanks, automation, audiocopy/paste etc) and recently updated to universal. a close competitor to that would be nanostudio that has an amazing synth. it's only made for the iPhone though but you can most certainly run it on the iPad.

i'm waiting impatiently for IK's sampletank for iOS!

MorphWiz (which I've just mentioned on another thread) - an excellent app.
SampleWiz (not bought it yet but it also looks amazing)

Both the above are from Jordan Rudess, and are well worth researching on YouTube etc.

Also the Smule Magic Piano and Magic Fiddle apps looks like they could be fun.
