My understanding is that it presents itself to the iPad as a SD card in the iPad Camera Conenction Kit. Not as a camera that can be used by iOS apps.

It's unlikely that it will perform like a built-in camera, but beggars can't be choosers. It has an app for editing and transferring images to email and Facebook or you can do it through the iPad's photo app.
