Eh, as far as functionality, it's expensive - but it's getting to the point of being a piece of apple history ;). I'd pay 120 maybe if i REALLY wanted one. But I don't. :).

Is $170 a fair price for a 1G 20 GB ipod? It seems a bit steep, but what do I know anyways. :p

I think the 1G only went to 10gb. It wasn't until the 2G that they had a 20gb model. The 1 and 2G look almost alike except for the mechanical vs touch wheel.

seems steep to me, i bought a 3G ipod for £40 in OK condition and another 3G for £60 in mint condition, and am buying a pink 1G mini with a dead battery for about £15 in a couple of weeks. I thought that I may have overpaid a little for them. Difference is that there are probably fewer people willing to part with their 1G for a lower price due to its sentimental value, and thus, you may have to sinificantly overpay to tempt them.

Yeah, make sure this is really a 1g, not 2g. If you're going to pay 170 for a g2, might as well get a new nano or something.
