I found a craigslist add for a imac g5 17inch which apparently had a blue screen whenever on for $20. The buyer yanked the hdd but states everything else is intact. Is it worth taking the gamble on a simple fix or is it a waste of cash.

I believe that the HDD in the G5 is PATA (at least they were in the G4 PowerBooks) so it may cost more for a hard-drive than it would to buy the machine. Might be good for the sake of nostalgia but don't expect any real performance or usability from it.

Thought it would be a fun project, already have a machine exactly like this though, maybe I'll just leave it be.

The iMac G5 has a SATA I onboard controller. Not a PATA one, I just don't want the OP to be confused when buying a drive. G4 and earlier had stock PATA drives, G5 and Intel were SATA.

Ah, thanks for your clarification. I'll remember that for future.
