I am looking for a stereo/CD player for my mom for Christmas. Are there any out there for around $50? She doesn't have an iPod or iPhone so a dock isn't necessary. I know there are a million choices, but I haven't bought or used one in about 12 years so I have no idea which brands are good.

There really aren't too many choices out there these days, so at least you won't have a bunch of options to confuse the issue.

Shop around and you will find stuff within your price range, plus Bose-type devices for several hundred dollars.

$50 is really a little too cheap to get anything 'good.' At that price range, I'd go to Best Buy/Target/Walmart and pick what I like off the shelf. They'll all be about the same - which is to say, totally fine for the vast majority of people.

A clock radio with a CD player maybe? Or a small boombox.

You don't really see shelf systems much these days.

$50? Best buy used. I've always found Aiwa to have decent enough sound.

I bought a Pioneer one at Wal-Mart and surprisingly enough it was really good.
