I just got the Thank you for choosing AT&T email from the order I did in the store on the 9th. The web page also still says in progress and a 0 in the backordered slot. The email had all the stuff mostly adding the iphone dataplan to my estimated charges.

I got a little lucky in my pre order. The reason I was in the store was to cancel a third line I did not need any more but was paying about $7 a month (good FAN discount) for until the contract expired. I was still too early to cancel but the phone had entered the cheap upgrade period.

I was shocked (and still cannot understand) that upgrading a 3G was $200 more than expected. I would totally understand the $499 ($299 plus $175 and fees) but $699 is crazy.

I was able to easily just upgrade the line I was going to cancel for $299 (White 32GB). Next week when the phone comes in I will turn off the old one for $175-$5 per month I have had it. I will be getting it done CHEAPER than if they had just had me pay a $200 fine and keep the original number.

I had to call the Business Account folks to fix the voice mail on the dormant phone and their nice rep told me he has been processing LOTS of cancelations of 3G users who are cancelling so they can buy as new customers. He is mystified why they are charging the extra money to people not willing to switch phone numbers.

Our local store believes they will be opening from 7-8 am next friday to give the pre order folks their phones.
